All About Quilted Bliss
Many years ago a Henry David Thoreau did an experiment and wrote about this experiment in his essay "On Walden Pond". Here are some famous quotes from this essay.
- As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.
- If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.
- This world is but a canvas to our imagination.
What has all this got to do with Quilted Bliss? Well Quilted Bliss is my dream. It is about my dream and the way I wanted to live my life. I wanted a career that afforded me the opportunity to do what I love and to have an impact on those I come in contact with on a daily basis. I felt as an attorney this would give me the opportunity to do these things. The problem I didn't love it. So I searched my heart on what made me sing and at the basis of all things that made me sing was my need to be creative. So I spent some time with a good friend and mentor, Paul Martinelli, as well as with my family and I explored my dreams and passions. The quilt shop was first a vision. From there I believed in the vision enough to pursue the dream. Now each day I dare to see what new and exciting thing I can do to share with you to make your dreams come true.
Of course all of this would not be possible without the help of friends and family and most importantly the Grand Overall Designer(God). I am blessed to have a wonderful staff comprised of my Melissa Coe, Joe Paiz, and Diane Dellinger. Supporting this group are Callie Edwards and Sue Freeman that help us on weekends. All five of these wonderful individuals are very knowledgeable on the topic of quilting and love assisting the customer in obtaining just what they need to make that special quilt or project. There is also my wonderful daughter and husband that act as bookkeeper and handyman. I, Candy Norris, round out the group. I started quilting in 1972 when I took a homemaking class and had to choose four fields one for each quarter. Quilting was one of those choices. My first quilt was made with my mother and was in the trunk of her car the last time I saw it. It is a biscuit quilt made from double knits. The squares were stuffed with nylon hose. One thing for sure it is heavy and very warm. Since that time I have experimented with a variety of styles and fabrics and even taken up long arm quilting.
